Bulgaria shirt worn by the legendary Hristo Bonev at the 1974 FIFA World Cup in Germany. "Zuma" is considered to be one of the greatest Bulgarian footballers of all time. Between 1967 and 1979, Bonev scored 47 goals in 96 appearances for his country. For over three decades, Zuma was the all-time leading goal scorer for the national team, before his record was tied by Dimitar Berbatov in 2009. To date, Bonev and Nasko Sirakov are the only Bulgarian players to score at two World Cups. At club level, Hristo Bonev became the greatest legend in Lokomotiv Plovdiv's history, in whose ranks he spent almost his entire career. With the black and white shirt, the striker scored 180 goals in 404 matches in "A" Grupa. Both stats are all time record for the club. Throughout his career, Bonev had short spells with CSKA Sofia and the Greek giant AEK Athens. Zuma was voted to the "Plovdiv's No. 1 footballer for the 20th century" award as well as three times winner of the "Bulgarian Footballer of the Year" award (1969, 1972, 1973). An interesting fact is that Zuma is the only player to date to win the award three times with a club that is not from the capital city. As a coach, Bonev led his beloved Lokomotiv Plovdiv before taking charge of the Greek giants Panathinaikos in 1988. In 1990, he won the Greek League title and was voted to the "Coach of the Year" award. Throughout his managing career Bonev was also in charge of AEL Limasol, Ionikos, Apoel Nicosia, the Bulgarian national team, Lokomotiv Sofia, Sachsen Leipzig and again Lokomotiv Plovdiv in 2010. With Apoel Nicosia he won the League title in 1996 as well as the Cypriot League Cup on two occasions (1995, 1996). Zuma led the Bulgarian national team to the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
