He earned 2 caps for the national team and was part of the squad at the 1996 European Championship in England but remained an unused substitute in all 3 matches for "the lions". In season 1995/1996 Georgiev scored six goals for Spartak Varna in a Bulgarian league match against Spartak Plovdiv. In the same season he became top scorer of the league, with 21 goals.
