In their historic first appearance at the Euros "the lions" achieved first win (1:0 over Romania) and draw (1:1 to Spain). Unfortunately, a 3:1 loss to France sent them third in Group B and Bulgaria did not advance to the knockout stage. Yordanov came in as a substitute against Spain in the 73 minute and swapped shirts with Donato Gama da Silva after the game. He was capped 51 times for the national team, including seven FIFA World Cup games in the 1994 and 1998 championships. Bronze medalist from the 1994 World Cup, Yordanov was also part of the squad at the Euro'96 in England.
